Ethan McGrath

Jonathan McNair - Southeastern Composers League
Ethan McGrath (b. 1990) is a composer, pianist, and organist from Chattanooga, Tennessee. His compositional influences are eclectic, but his choral works are indebted most of all to English composers of the last century, particularly Ralph Vaughan Williams. Also taking great interest in American music and poetry, Ethan set the words of Walt Whitman to music in his first published composition, "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd"–a work that has been performed by several choirs around the country, and which Rodney Eichenberger has featured in his choral workshops and a reading session at the 2013 ACDA National Conference in Dallas. In the spring of 2013, Ethan released a CD entitled An Echo from Willowwood, featuring his works for voice and piano.

Ethan has studied composition at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he has had the opportunity to learn from composers Jonathan McNair, Roland Carter, and Mario Abril. He has also studied organ under Judy Glass at Southern Adventist University, and has served as organist at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and First Baptist Church of Chattanooga.
